| History / Reported Activity: | History The Germania Hotel was built in 1856 when this region was still very much a wilderness. It is currently a 3-story building with 20 rooms, including a large ballroom, and is over 6000 sq. ft of space. Much of the current structure is original. It has been undergoing renovations continuously for some time and renovations are still in progress. The hotel and restaurant is still in operation. There are many stories and legends attached to the property, including several deaths that have allegedly taken place here over the past 153 years. One includes a bartender named Danny that lived in the hotel for a long time and passed away here. We are currently working with the Potter County Historical Society to put together a more complete history of the hotel and to try and verify any of the stories attached to it. We will update this report with that info as soon as we have it. Activity According to management and staff, activity occurs on an almost daily basis. Reported activity includes: Voices, party sounds when building is empty, moving shadows, footsteps, knocks and bangs, objects disappearing and reappearing someplace else, being touched, strong breezes moving through rooms in conjunction with other activity, feeling "watched", uneasyness, etc. all throughout the entire building. Activity does not seem to be isolated to one area. Reported activity has occurred with multiple witnesses over many years. |
| Investigation Notes: | This was just a preliminary investigation to determine
if a Full Team Investigation is warranted. I was unintentionally alone. I conducted EMF sweeps, EVP sessions, a lot of audio and video recording, and took still pictures. One of the EVP sessions was conducted in the bartenders former room (room 13 - now room 31) where he allegedly passed away. I had the infrared Hi8 video camera covering the second floor hallway where a lot of activity is reported. CCTV camera was covering the first floor dining room. Overall, the investigation was pretty uneventful. I did not have any personal experiences other than an uneasy feeling in some areas. In several areas that people reported the feeling of being watched, including behind the bar and the 2nd floor lounge, I found very high levels of EMF. With the equipment I have I can't tell what the frequency of the EMF is, but it is possible that the EMF may be the cause of those feelings. |
